Peace Adult Education for Sunday, April 3rd.

Sex, lies, intrigue, great wealth, family dysfunction, and camels – all within the providence of God. Who’d have imagined it? This Sunday the Genesis class continues through the Abraham cycle with the story of the finding of Rebecca to marry Isaac.

It might surprise you to read that religion is on its way to extinction in Ireland. That Finland and the Netherlands are becoming non-religious societies might not be quite so surprising. But what about Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Canada, and the Czech Republic? And maybe the end of religious affiliation in Switzerland, where the Reformed family of churches got its start, would sadden us, as Presbyterians.

In the Wired Word we will discuss the observation that religion in general and, in the abovementioned societies, Christianity specifically is shrinking. Or perhaps the world wide demographics are merely shifting. Why is the fastest growing religious affiliation in the United States NRP (no religious preference)? What does your own experience of Christianity in the United States lead you to conclude about its future here? What can we do? What should we do? What’s at stake?

The Modern Spiritual Masters Class will consider Flannery O’Connor, who is one of the great American writers of the twentieth century. You may have read some of her work but maybe not her collected letters which showed not only her literary talent but the depth of her personal faith and her wisdom as a spiritual guide.

Finally there will be a class about you, Peace, the Presbyterian Church (USA), and all the followers of Jesus – who we are, where we fit, how we serve.

See you Sunday,

Bill
