Speaking as a native of Tarpon Springs (on Epiphany) it’s good to see that this year the Presbyterian Church, this year, describes Epiphany as the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. And we are beginning an exciting new year in Adult Education. Most wonderfully, our own Mickey Miller will start a Bible study.
Tired of Bible studies that are too elementary and platitudinous? Tired of Bible studies that you need a PhD in theology to understand? Looking for something just right, erudite enough to be informative and stimulating, down-to-earth enough to be applicable and significant for your life – seek no farther! Mickey will start with Genesis and, relying on the classic Mighty Acts of God by AB Rhodes, walk us through the good book with his usual keen insight and engaging style. Y’all come!
In the Wired Word we will discuss the theological implications of the recent sudden death of large numbers of birds across Arkansas, Kentucky and Louisiana. Jesus used the image of a sparrow falling to speak about God’s love and care for humankind, the news gives us an opportunity to talk about God’s love, and what that means in the living of our days. We will discuss some issues such as, if God knows when a bird will fall, why does he let the fall occur? And, since bad things still happen to good people, what does it mean to say that God cares for us?
Finally you are always welcome to join the youth in their ongoing discussion around Rob Bell’s Nooma videos and the fresh issues they bring up each week.
Peace,
Bill
