Adult Lively Learning for January 16th

In Mickey’s Bible Study we will revisit the opening creation story. We will read again the creed of creation, God bringing order out of chaos. It’s a picture of the overflowing, creative, generosity of God; a paean of praise to the almighty creator of the heavens and the earth, all things visible and invisible.

In the Wired Word we will take up the recent shooting in Arizona and the many questions it raises – how to punish wrongdoers, how to treat mentally disturbed people, the quality of public discourse and the possible effects of overheated rhetoric on people. Does the quality of discourse affect mentally fragile people? Do they attach their private delusions to extreme rhetoric or are they pretty much unaffected by it? How should justice and compassion, represented by the justice system and the counseling community, interact? Most of all, how should Christians, and how should Christian churches, respond?

Finally, especially if you have not done so, you might join the youth in their ongoing discussion around Rob Bell’s Nooma videos and the fresh issues they bring up each week.

See you Sunday,
Bill
